Under observation

After a week of missing Frankie we simply had to get on a plane and fly to LA to see her again. Luckily we had arranged it all several months in advance.

Today we had an educational trip (she is six months old) to the Mount Wilson Observatory where we learned about all things space. It was a shock - I'd always assumed that the universe revolved around me! It turns out Frankie had the same idea, and after many displays about planets, stars, dark matter, etc. we both had to admit that we were wrong.

The other entertainment of the day was driving on the I-5. This is the main artery north-to-south through LA, and on reflection trying to use it at 4pm on a Friday afternoon might not have been the best idea. But we were far from alone! We crawled with LAs many car lovers for two-and-three-quarter hours before finally returning to the safe bosom of Orange County and a round of margaritas.

LA movers and shakers.

A Foucault's Pendulum in full swing.

Yes, we are hot! Frankie's the hottest of us all...

Moving the telescope with Dad.

The sun! Through a coelostat.

A real-life astronomer explains what's going on.

A chunk of moon rock, and a fake moon.

Believe it or not, this is a cosmic ray! It's true!!

A much happier baby (see below post).

A starlet dreams of success.

Must...avoid...obvious...caption...

At the end of all that, the telescope was actually a bit of a let down.

The urban sprawl and smog of LA. But I love this place.

Or I did, until we "enjoyed" several hours on one of her freeways.
