Bull in a china shop

Sorry for slow blogging of late, but after you've been naked in northern California the rest of life loses it's lustre a bit.  Thankfully this lack of excitement was remedied by a visit from the Muckers.  They're down in Monterey now, learning Russian as quickly as possible, ready for Vince to take a military diplomat placement in Moscow (or Turkmenistan, or Kurdistan, or...)

Vince and Christine had a party and a free night at a hotel in SF, so we got Claire all to ourselves!  She's a bit bigger than she used to be, and is now capable of telling you exactly what she wants (she is her mother's daughter).  "Hot peaches," I was told when I asked what she'd like for dessert.

It was her birthday a few weeks back, and in the hectic whirl of our beach bum lives we'd failed to get her a present.  So we decided it would be fun to take a two-year-old into a toy shop and ask what she'd like to buy. One of the best things about kids is that they don't mind when you do sociological experiments on them!

We found ourselves in Five Little Monkeys here in the Creek, and uncaged the beast.  As you'd expect from such a well brought up child of the village, Claire wandered and pondered serenely.  An Etch-A-Sketch caught her eye, which made this child of the 70s happy, but she finally settled on a tub of Lego, an equally fine choice.  Next year we'll see how she does in a shoe shop.

Out in the Creek.

Wasting no time getting up to speed.

Kiddie iPad.

No gender stereotyping here!  If you ignore the all-pink outfit.

Decision made, and off to the checkout.

How many little monkeys can you spot?
