Social mixer

How hard can it be to create your own Bordeaux Premier Grand Cru? With this question in mind, Dan and Fiona hosted a wine blending party this evening. They'd bought a kit of pure varietals, and with a few measuring cups and a jug we were ready to go.

There was Cabernet Franc for body, Merlot for spice, Petit Verdot for...something else. I printed out a recipe sheet of a few different wines and their percentage mixes but, after a few glasses, all scientific endeavour was thrown to the wind and a cavalier, free-style attitude prevailed (and we ran out of everything except Petit Verdot).

I was fairly happy with this year's Chateau Davies - 75% Cab Franc, 25% Merlot, 25% Malbec, and a cheeky extra 3% P Verdot. Smooth, with good structure and a long finish. Already sold out.
