Away with the pixies

The theme park - a fine American tradition.  Be it Six Flags, or Waterworld, or the mother of them all, Disneyland, nothing can beat the sheer thrill of hundreds of acres given over to fun!  Slightly further down the scale is Fairyland, the Oakland stalwart that was a big hit with the Hammonds on one of their previous visits.

Somewhere below that is Pixieland.  Are pixies smaller than fairies?  I'd always thought of them as being a little more malevolent, maybe because my sister was in pixie six when she was a Brownie.

Anyway, we were looking after Logan today and after ditching a plan to go to the high-brow Chabot Space Center, mainly due to an admission charge of $44 for the three of us, Hannah discovered Pixieland on Yelp, mere minutes from us in Concord.  "Why have we never discovered this before?" she asked.  Because the fates have been kind.

It's actually quite a charming little place, a small collection of rides next to a duck pond.  Evidently its been here for a long time, as several Yelp reviewers mention coming as children and then returning with their own kids.  There's a carousel, and a dragon roller coaster, and even a little train that takes you around the duck pond.  The pond has geese too, and turtles!  Which might qualify it as a wildlife park.

What isn't quite as small and charming is the cost to ride anything - a dollar a ticket, and multiple tickets needed for most rides.  Hannah seemed a little upset that Logan was tall enough to go on some by himself, but she did get to accompany him on the roller coaster.  I'm not sure I've ever seen her look so happy.  Certainly enough fun and excitement for me, and I was only watching.  I'll be having a quiet weekend to recover.

Small and cute, but not malevolent.

Actual size.

"No, I think I'd better come on all the rides with you."

Red Barron.

There's a lower legal driving age in Concord.  I should also note that Hannah passed her US driving test this morning with no errors!  She's a better driver than me!!

And that's one of the reasons she looks so happy.

On the train, with the slightly self-conscious driver.

Wildlife.

And geese too.
