Patrons of the arts

It was another Chevron-sponsored fundraising event this evening, and actually a very nice one, for the Oakland Ballet.  Except that they were holding this fundraiser because Chevron can't fund them any more, and we were there on Chevron tickets.  Is that called irony?

These events are usually pretty dull, Hannah going along because it's part of her job and me being tempted to join her because of the free food.  This one sounded a lot more interesting, a Spring Gala with a performance and dessert with the dancers afterwards, and there were enough tickets to invite Shauli and Anat to join us too.

There was lots of Champagne, and Mexican-themed nibbles for Cinco de Mayo, and then the dancing in an intimate little theatre (where Shauli made us sit at the front).  As usual there were money-boosting auctions and raffles, but because of the relatively small number of patrons present we actually won some stuff!  Shauli walked away with a very nice Acer tablet when his ticket was pulled out, and Hannah snagged a weekend at a local spa (non-naked) for a bargain price.  The item I really wanted was a cameo role in their production of The Nutcracker, but someone else won that, and I suspect my prima donna demands for my own solo may not have gone down well...

Scrubbing up nicely.

A rather incongruous auction item, but then I discovered that the artistic director was British.

What I really wanted.

How hard can it be?

In the auditorium.

Jean Quan, the Mayor of Oakland!

Shauli with his winnings.

And us with ours!  I danced all the way home.
