Bright lights, big city

I've never lived in the centre of a big international city before, apart from Frome, so I'm always amazed at how close together everything is.  Looking for a Korean-Ethiopian-BBQ-fusion restaurant?  There's one just around the corner.  Need some Iranian pistachios?  Three minutes walk away.  Ice rink?  Well, this is Canada.

So I was equally delighted to find that Bright Lights in Stanley Park, Vancouver's premier Christmas lights event, is a mere ten minutes stroll.  Although it's a bit of a shame as there's a karaoke Christmas trolley that will take you there if you come from further away.

Anyway, the whole thing is a charity event for local firefighters who put up each of the 3 million bulbs.  The slightly scary dark forest that you have to walk through to get there makes the twinkling all the more impressive, and there's even a nativity scene!  They turn its bulbs off when the rock-music-and-light display next to it starts up, all except baby Jesus who remains spot-lit throughout.  Make of that what you will.

I told you everything is close together!

Oooo, sparkly.

Ahhh, twinkly.

This is the winter wizard.  Pete burst into floods of tears mere seconds later.  I think the experience with Santa may have scarred him against men with beards.

Glow-penguins.

Hannah enjoys the fairy lights.

There were multiple Santas and sleighs, all rather confusing.

Bright baby.

A last few twinkly lights to look at as we walk home.
