One fish, two fish

It was Monday, the day before Christmas Eve and Hannah's last day of work, so it seemed like a good time to spend several hours at Vancouver Aquarium.  It's the biggest in Canada, naturally, and Meg and Ellen had been given tickets as a Christmas present from an aunt.  Pete and my tickets were a pressie from Hannah - an annual pass, no less, as the place is 15 minutes walk from the house.  We will be here a lot ("if you're naughty, you're going to have to go to see Mr Shark again.")

The aquarium is officially a "marine science centre" which means they care for a lot of rescued animals.  They currently have dolphins, belugas, otters, porpoises, an anaconda...they also have a huge display of jellyfish at the moment.  The undisputed highlight, however, was watching "Scuba Claus" arrive in the main tank and go diving to find his lost sleigh bell (and feed the fish, I presume).  Pete loved it too, and only tried to eat the animals in the educational touch-tanks a few times.  I'll introduce him to sushi soon.

Meg, Ellen, and bioluminescent jellies.

Pete has more interesting things to look at.

Sadly, Ellen got eaten by a female deepsea anglerfish early on in the visit.

Caimans, ready to discipline unruly children.

Scuba Claus and his equally-Christmas-themed little helper.

Try fitting eight reindeer into that tank too!

A beluga.  Something to do with caviar?  I'm confused.

Meg and the white whale.

Hana and Helen, Pacific White-Sided dolphins and stars of the show.

I'll have that one tempura-fried please.
