Mountain retreat

After months of meticulous planning, the Unofficial Haas South Lake Tahoe Ski Weekend is underway! Several cars brimming with young, keen, Winter Olympic-types ascended from Berkeley into the Sierra Nevadas, filling two luxury cottages and generally bringing a party atmosphere to the place.

South Lake Tahoe nestles on the lower snowy shores of this beautiful blue lake. You can walk out of your door, jump onto a ski lift, and be on the mountain in seconds. If you know how to ski, that is. Hannah and I are taking it a little easier, sitting comfortably in the public library (did someone say free wi-fi?) and researching our afternoon activity of cross-country skiing. Like real skiing, but without having to go down.

Three nights away = a car packed floor to ceiling with luggage.

A mountain pass on the way there.

Hannah and my luxury accommodation. Quiet for last night...today the Singers arrive!

Lacking only a bear-skin rug. And nudity.

Meanwhile, it's tea time at the other house.

The extreme sports got off to a good start when Fini and I trapped a bear cub by hand!

Sagy tries to better our catch.

The view from our front door this morning.

Hannah has found her new office space. Maybe we'll skip all that tiring ski stuff...
