Beach bench

I've mentioned Albany beach a few times - a strange place betwixt land and water that was once the city dump.  It's now a park with some wonderful community-maintained sculptures.  I manage to walk down there most days, normally with fellow Haas partner and hiker Dana, and credit its healthy effects with my not becoming obese on too many donuts and Twinkies.

Today we were in for a surprise.  We rounded the headland to find a new bench, constructed by some people who love the place as much as we do and were heading back to the East Coast.  It was, the message on the back explained, a goodbye gift for all the time they'd spent there.  It even had a visitors' book in a drawer underneath with an invitation to add a poem!  How could we resist...?

Sitting in the sun has been shown to burn almost as many calories as walking.  I hope.

Searching for inspiration.  "There was a young lady from Berkeley..."

Replacing the visitors' book in the integral draw.  The thing really has to be seen to be believed!
