Wild blue yonder

Mum and Sheila went to Alcatraz (temporarily) today. Did I decide on a day in bed, recovering from the exertions of keeping up with two pensioners? No! Convincing fellow hiker Dana to join me I drove south into Ohlone Regional Wilderness.

This is a beautiful park of rolling green hills, oaks, and waterfalls. Our destination was one such cascade - Murietta Falls. A gentle stroll, we thought, as the undulating countryside slipped by.

Unfortunately we didn't realise that an ascent of 4300ft in 5.5 miles is actually quite a challenge. Four hours after setting out we were stood by the falls...which weren't falling as much as descending carefully due to lack of rain.

No matter, we finished off the packet of Jelly Belly beans I'd taken as emergency rations (the walk was full of emergencies that required rations) and trudged the rest of the 11 mile round trip, elated and exhausted. But mostly exhausted. Maybe a day in bed would have been a better choice...

The beauty of Ohlone Wilderness Park.

We got out of the car, crossed the car park, and then Dana decided it was time for a rest.

A tree stump, and more scenary.

Epic, top-of-the-mountain shot.

Interesting looking cloud.

A bit chilly at lunch time.

We've found the falls! Careful Dana, you don't want to get swept away.

Refreshing my feet before the trek down (although Dana's version is a little closer to the truth...)
