The blessing of the pets

St Francis of Assisi was an interesting chap.  Not only did he give up all his family wealth, start an order of monks, and name our nearby city, he also was a keen lover of animals.  With his social and environmental interests he would fit right into Hannah's team at Chevron!

One of the most famous stories about the original San Francisco was when he confronted a huge wolf that had been eating an Italian town's sheep and people, and got them all to make friends. The wolf had committed its evil out of hunger, and so the townspeople agreed to feed it regularly and it agreed not to eat them.  St. F would also have done well in Hannah's negotiation class at Haas.

To celebrate this and the Saint's other acts of charity our local church held a blessing of the animals today.  You could bring whatever species you wanted, as long as it was tethered, caged, boxed, or otherwise restrained.  A shame, as the comedy factor would have increased exponentially if everything was running wild.

One wild thing that wasn't tethered was Claire, who was in seventh heaven woofing at all the doggies.  The service was fairly straightforward, but at the end all the pets went up to the front and were blessed and sprinkled with holy water.  Nothing ate, bit, clawed, or otherwise worried anything else.  That wolf would have been proud.

A face in the crowd.

All dogs go to heaven.

Everyone took their pets to the front, and I got to take...

Afterwards, a Mucker family portrait.  Mini Mucker #2 is due in January.

Finishing off at The Counter - a design-your-own-burger joint right by our house.  Claire is understandably anxious about how quickly Daddy might polish off that milkshake.
