Exertion

Fiona has been a bit bored recently while she and Dan consider work options of staying in the USA vs. a return to the paradise of New Zealand.  So when she suggested getting out of the house for a wander around Point Reyes I jumped at the chance.  Being of outdoorsy stock, her idea of a wander was slightly longer than my own (around 15 miles longer).

We began beside the San Andreas fault and climbed up through wooded hills and finally down to the Pacific.  From high up the ocean was as calm as I'd ever seen it, but down on the sand the surf thundered in and caused us to move our picnic spot a couple of times in fear.  This being NorCal we also encountered a few "characters", including a guy sat on a bridge with a two-litre bottle of Dr Pepper, smoking something interesting, claiming to be a troll and demanding a fee for crossing.  We smiled weakly and passed by.

Having done an activity so unfeasibly healthy, the natural balance of Californian life needed to be restored.  After picking up Dan, on his way back from another geothermal trip to Nevada, we returned to the Creek and Hannah for a late-night burger and milkshake at new-favourite-and-one-minute's-walk-away restaurant Counter Burger.  "Incentivization", as they say at Haas.

Starting off on the trail.  Fiona's very small.

Sparkles on the calm water.

It was huge, and came straight for us.
