How to get a head in Walnut Creek

While other Californian towns are saving money by having 15-second-long firework displays or simply declaring bankruptcy, here in the Creek profligacy continues unabated.  The most public display of this public spending is a couple of new fountains that have sprung up, almost overnight.

The first is a tasteful affair, with water trickling gently over a mosaic sphere, broken in half to reveal further gold, mirrored tiles in side.  Rather nice, and quite soothing.  The second...well, I wandered past it today, and it was a bit of a surprise.

By day, water comes out at the top, in a painful-looking trepanning manner.  At night it climbs out, wandering the streets and preying on raccoons.

Ridley Scott's latest sci-fi horror film, still in cinemas.  Coincidence?
