In the eye of the beholder

The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) is free on the first Tuesday of every month. Some of the people I went with thought this still made it too expensive, given the quality of exhibits inside, but anyway...

Having parked cheaply in a less-than-wonderful area of the city (our usual car park, just down the road from where we stopped, was surrounded by "Police - Do Not Cross" tape) we made our way to the gallery passing a line into a hotel where America's Next Top Model auditions were taking place. Dana, Moran, and Marta, all far more beautiful than the hopefuls we passed, couldn't be persuaded to try their luck.

SFMOMA was interesting. Along with some questionable photography - if it's taken in a third world country it must be art, right? - there were galleries of interesting paintings, sculptures, and architecture. I thought they were interesting, at least.

Far more exciting to everyone was the coffee we had at the Blue Bottle Cafe on the way home, by common consent one of the best coffee shops in SF. The cappuccino got a thumbs up from Italian Marta, and even Dana (who's worried that her appreciation of good, i.e. Israeli, coffee is being corroded by her stay in the US) admitted it was alright. Now that was a moment worth photographing.

Two of America's next top models.

Moran and I decided to install ourselves in the gallery.

It's a cathedral, obviously.

Me and a major landmark of 20th Century art. My favourite quote from the Wikipedia page: "Swedish artist Björn Kjelltoft urinated in the Fountain at Moderna Museet in Stockholm in 1999."

Serious art criticism going on.

Let's take a look from a different angle.

Moran and some Barbie cakes.

Coffee lovers united.
