Ashes to ashes

Things are not going too well in a country a few thousand miles from here, so in an attempt to cheer ourselves up Akhil managed to blag some baseball tickets from his internship at Yahoo. Unlike my last trip to a ball game (unless this counts) today we were at the AT&T Stadium, home of the San Francisco Giants.

The Giants have an interesting history, having started playing in New York before moving west in 1957. They haven't won a World Series since getting here, but the weather's better so hopefully they're happy.

The stadium is smaller than the one in Oakland and has a lot more distractions - a trolley car, some interesting sculptures, and a mascot that drives around in a golf cart. At times it felt like we were walking through a shopping mall with a baseball game happening somewhere nearby. But we beat the Cincinnati Reds 4 - 2. If England can match that result against Australia, we'll all be happy...

Akhil enjoys a Pimms and lemonade on the way to the game. Just like back in Manchester!

Park entrance.

Enjoying a nice afternoon in a canoe? No! They're waiting to paddle to retrieve any balls hit from the stadium into the water. Strange.

Inside.

A trolley car. It didn't move, and you couldn't see the game if you sat inside, but it looked nice.

Public sculpture.

Check out this guy - he has an OBP of .444! Impressive.

Hannah soaks up the sun. We were unaware that the opposition today wore red caps, but we avoided any violence.

Further proof that Hannah's current employer can't be all bad.
