We built this city

Rock City is an exciting place to visit in Walnut Creek.  Not the latest nightclub (we don't go for that sort of thing here in the suburbs) it's a bit of Mt. Diablo characterised by its strange sandstone formations, "wind" caves, and smooth rocky bulges begging to be climbed.  We'd never been there before, so took the opportunity of Jack and Amanda staying to take the tour (and use their car to get there - we're not going to walk!)

Two things I learned about the place: it is popular with families, especially large and noisy families who set their children free (and maybe leave them there while doing some shopping in the Creek), and locals seem very happy to graffiti the entire place.  Although does it count as graffiti if it's scratched into the soft stone?

After a happy hour in the sun we continued up the mountain (by vehicle) for a picnic on the top.  Unfortunately the cloud rolled in, and we were forced into an in-car meal.  After a weekend full of American experiences it was a nice British finish to the outing.

Rock City's fabulous formations.

A final push to the top.

A tasty, toasty lunch at the summit.
