The event was slightly different this year, in a rather horribly misjudged manner. Last time it was all about giving awards to some inspiring teens and congratulating the people and corporations (yay Chevron!) who supported them, but this time they decided to tack on a big fundraising drive. Which didn't go well when the auctioneer started asking for a $25,000 donation and ended up dropping down to $100 before the ball began rolling. At the last similar function I went to (with my Mum) they'd primed a few board members to drop the $$$s to encourage us all. Manipulative, yet far more effective.
But who can complain when the food's free, you're surrounded by gorgeous motors, and the corporate citizen of the year is Peet's Coffee who gives a pound of beans to all attendees?! When Chevron won last year we didn't even get a tank of petrol.
A glitzy night out.
Let's start at the top: a 1961 Aston Martin.
This monster is a 1936 Duesenberg that used to belong to Lana Turner's husband.
An Italian beast - a 1953 Alfa Romeo B.A.T. 5 (Berlinetta Aerodynamica Technica).
Back to British, with a 1957 Jag. Before they were bought by an American company called Ford...
Ahhh, a Rolls. A 1911 Silver Ghost, the debut of the "Spirit of Ecstasy" mascot that has appeared on the front of all their cars since.
This is my attempt to make it look like I'm sitting in one of the cars. Hmmm.
Finishing on a high note with an E-Type Jaguar. Apologies about this post to non-car fans, but they're just all so pretty!
