It was Rachel's last day with us today (*sob*)...so of course we spent it eating and drinking! After another early start - 11am this time - we rolled into San Francisco and caught the trolley car around to Fisherman's Wharf and the legendary In'n'Out Burger.
In'n'Out was founded in the 1940s, and with outlets in CA, UT, AZ and NV is whole-heartedly West Coast in loads of good ways like paying its employees a lot more than the usual minimum wage and printing Bible verses on all its packaging.
And the food! Aaahhh, the food. Everything's cooked to order, fries are made out of real potatoes, and there's a secret menu for those in the know (or, at least, those who know how to visit their website). So Rachel and I enjoyed our burgers "animal style", and she had her fries "well done".
That evening we met Hannah in Haight Ashbury, the permanent Glastonbury Festival of SF. Inbetween the tie-dye and Hookah-selling smoke shops Hannah had found a very trendy bar called Alembic to take Rachel to for her birthday treat. It was tapas style (i.e. the servings were too small to actually fill you up).
Rachel now returns to the UK having had more fun here that should be allowed (flying under the Golden Gate Bridge in a helicopter!? Please...) Come back soon!
A beautiful sight!
Mmmm...crispy.
The painfully trendy Alembic bar. The dress code changes hourly to keep up with current fashion.
Girls and cocktails. Hannah's one even included some gold leaf! After several attempts to remove it with a teaspoon and use it to buy more cocktails she shooed me away and drank it.
