Life on the road

Hello from lovely Bakersfield!  Or just south, at Buena Vista Aquatic Recreation area.  The good news is that we made it here alive, driving a behemoth through the central valley, terrifying all other drivers on the roads.

The day started early with Shauli and I going down to San Leandro to pick up the Class A vehicle that was reserved for us.  Things are a little more involved than picking up a car - a 20 minutes induction video, a full explanation of all interior and exterior workings, and an accident and emergency kit that includes a disposal camera to record everything.

Then it was time to drive.  Shauli took it back to Albany, we loaded up, then I took it to San Ramon via Walnut Creek and thence on the I-5 south.  Wow, this thing is not easy to drive.  I think it's the three inches each side before you're drifting from your lane onto the hard shoulder, or someone else's wing mirror.  I only got beeped a couple of times, and Shauli gave one person a near-death experience.  Other than that, we were good.

Now we're parked and hooked up to electricity and water just like the video taught us.  Arbel has had it toughest, falling asleep in his portable cot in the bathroom, but overall this is a very luxurious way to get around.  It is also somewhat intimate when a paper-thin screen is all that separates your bed from the toilet.  But whatever, we're all friends here!  For the moment...

Where the RVs live.  These are little Class C's...

And THIS is our Class A.

I read up on the important things before we leave.

Shauli prefers to see the movie.

Final coaching session, then we're off.

In the driver's seat.

Like a good Jewish mother, Anat struggles to fit all the food she has brought into the available space.

Don't let the pigeon drive the bus!

With the extendy bits extended, it's almost as big as a Uni Village apartment!

Even on the move there's still time for Christmas.  Artificial, naturally.

Dinner time (note inter-religious theming).
