North/South divide

We spent a very enjoyable weekend showing our country cousins from the south all the delights that NorCal has to offer.  James and Gen live in Los Angeles, which I believe is an up-and-coming town towards Mexico, and we didn't want to scare them too much with the awesomeness here.

Walnut Creek dazzled them enough, so we decided to stick to some of the more straightforward tourists sites.  Not that anything is straightforward when you're accompanied by such a maverick tour guide as myself!  Thankfully that didn't deter them too much, and they left conceding that maybe we do have some cool stuff.  Come back soon...for the alternative tour...

Gen, born and bred SoCal, gets into the hippie mood by eating granola for breakfast!  This was my first major breakthrough.

I seem to recognise this place.

Frankie, also totally SoCal, has her first introduction to tree hugging (the first step to tree sitting).

A tree hugs them back!

John Muir holds on to Frankie's backpack.

Hannah and a bear go nose-to-nose, and there can be only one winner.

A more friendly bear.

English roots begin to show through as we "enjoy" a picnic in sub-zero temperatures while overlooking the Pacific.  If it's not raining, it's picnic weather, right?

The Creek's SF Creamery.  Before...

...during...

...after.

Where else?

"This is fantastic!" commented two-yr-old Frankie on more than one occasion.

Some pre-flight play in Civic Park before their tearful journey back to the boondocks.

Cute sliding!
