Once again, the privilege of paying for someone to do an MBA at Haas was brought home to me tonight when I got the chance to hear Gavin Newsom, Mayor of San Francisco speak. Boy, is this guy a politician. He's SF's youngest mayor in over 100 years and, having just announced that he's running for California governor, this guy has some time left ahead of him.
The most impressive part was how he judged the audience, giving the academic Berkeley crowd exactly the right mix of cynicism about the political process, inside stories, and a sprinkling of liberal politics. Was I impressed? You betcha!
Not the toughest crowd in the world.
Security was tight-ish.
Trust me, I'm a politician!
