We started at the Mt Diablo ranger station and trotted up the 1,700 ft to the summit. Behind us, clouds began rolling into the lowlands, and we soon found ourselves on a little island in a fluffy white sea (where we ate lunch). Unfortunately our route down - which somehow involved a long drop before a 900ft climb - took us into extreme Wales-like conditions. And we saw a dead tarantula! After that excitement it was back down the winding road into overcast Walnut Creek.
Emma and I are in general agreement over our route.
And off she goes!
The cloud begins to sweep in.
Ben is unimpressed by the weather. But I am very impressed by his hat.
On the way up.
Someone removed the '1' in front of that number.
A sunny spot for lunch, which took almost as long as the rest of the walk.
The cloud base rises.
I left the others behind and headed off to conquer a highly technical, lone peak.
It looked nicer from above.
And off she goes again!
Buena vista.
Ooooh, a tarantula! Ben was heroic, and knocked it off the path before Emma would come near. Unfortunately it was dead, and one of its legs fell off.
