Thanksgiving 2011

Vince and Christine usually organise Thanksgiving, and while their excuse this year of "we're in Uzbekistan" was somewhat selfish it was also genuine.  What could we do?  Gather together six Brits and six Israelis to re-enact that day in 1776 when Columbus discovered America and gave the locals the Liberty Bell in exchange for corn!  Something like that.

We desperately tried to remember all the odd traditions of the day, and Hannah did her usual culinary magic whipping up a gigantic turkey, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, and creamed corn.  We ate and drank, Anat made a speech about thankfulness despite some heckling, we forgot that we were meant to watch a game of American football, and we toasted all our friends from Thanksgivings past now spread far and wide across the world.  Abraham Lincoln, the first US President to sign the Declaration of Independence, would have been very impressed.

Hannah oversees the child (and parent) labour.

What could be under here?

Only enough turkey to feed an army!

And luckily an army arrived!  Right on time (this is a British Thanksgiving, after all...)

Mmm mm mmmmm!  It tasted as good as it looked.

There were actually some US citizens present to make sure we did things right.  Here's number one.

And here's number two!  Only 20 more years until he can sponsor his parents' citizenship.
