The Day of the Triffids

Plants.  I've never been a huge fan.  They sit there, not really doing much, growing silently and minding their own business.  All qualities that would be wonderful in a human, but somewhat boring in flora.

My Mum and Sheila (and my mother-in-law) are, however, all big plant fans, and my Mum has long wanted to go the the Conservatory of Flowers in Golden Gate Park.  As it was a (shockingly!) rainy day in California we decided to take the opportunity to go.

It was full of plants!  Mostly green ones.  Some of them had flowers, and others had spiky stems.  Some of them liked growing in the warm rooms, and yet others thrived in a more temperate environment.  None of them did anything, at least not while I was watching, and you couldn't even eat any of them.  Mum and Sheila enjoyed themselves thoroughly.

The Conservatory.

Into the jungle.

Pygmy.  And plants.

We followed the trip with lunch at Ocean Beach.  The cafe, which served delicious sandwiches, was absolutely packed, and surprisingly the Brits were the only nationality that decided sitting outside was a better option.  We are a hardy bunch.

Just like when she used to visit us in Durham.
