A farewell to mums

Back to the quiet life in the Creek (at least until Thursday, when brother-in-law John arrives).  I waved Mum and Sheila goodbye at the BART station this morning.  They should hopefully have a comfortable trip back in Virgin Premium Economy, and only have one bag each to avoid a repeat of the luggage-napping that took place on the way.

Yesterday we did a final, full tour of SF with a ferry across the Bay to Sausalito and a bus ride back over the Golden Gate Bridge.  Sausalito is a funny place - a tourist town where the tourists obviously have a lot of money.  Art galleries abound, selling stuff that would be hard to fit into your carry-on, and cafes still have their tables on the pavements in the unseasonably hot sun.  The bus back to the city reminded me just how big the Golden Gate is.  It's big.  Sheila was a little upset to find out that she's two years older than the bridge (but she looks much better).

Catching the ferry.

The hopeful faces of immigrants.

The prison and the bridge.

Hannah, Mum and Sheila keep a lookout.  I sat inside in the warm.

People who live in Sausalito tend to own one of these.

Final breakfast.  The first place we went to was judged "too healthy", so we headed to Hubcaps Diner for pancakes and maple syrup with oars.

Off they go!
