They hadn't bean before!

Scarcely believable, but this is Emily's third trip to NorCal and we have never taken her to the Jelly Belly factory!  We put that right today and, although my visits are now in triple figures, it was good to have a refresher on all things bean.  It was Charity's first time, of course, and she instantly declared it possibly the best day of her life.  Things only improved with a visit to a second factory, one that makes cheesecake, in Macy's.

Our old uni, Durham, was holding a reception as part of the Society of Biblical Literature conference that's going on in the city at them moment.  It was an opportunity to mix with new and potential postgrads and catch up with some of our old lecturers.  Unfortunately, we've been away for so long that only two people who taught us are left, one of them being Charity's Dad.  Still, in the time-honoured student manner we ate and drank as much of the free food and wine as we could.

Mr Jelly Belly is in the holiday spirit!

Filling up before the tour.

They describe these jelly bean pictures as "an artform".

Three polite girls waiting patiently.

The museum is something of a Reagan shrine, given how the man's love for the JB bean catapulted it onto the world stage.  Here's a particularly nifty badge.

Hire care.

Then it was into SF for more California experiences.

Macy's Christmas window once again has live kittens and puppies in.  It's a bit strange, but it does all seem to be for charity (Charity wishes they were all for Charity).

Here are some less troublesome pets.

Hmmm.

Holidays are coming...

Next morning, Charity tucks into a breakfast of champions.
