Exploratoriers

Like all over-priced SF attractions, the Exploratorium ("the museum of science and human perception") has a free day once a month. For this one it's the first Wednesday, and being a bit older than Cal Academy there wasn't a queue stretching for three miles before it opened.

It was also a lot better than Cal academy. Hundreds (literally) of hands-on science experiments for kids to bash, look at, fiddle with, and question parents/aunts/uncles about. Oliver and Bethany were entranced, and the twins pinged around happily from plasma tube to giant cyclone generator. I did get to have some fun with a magnifying glass and a prism or two. Why don't they make museums like this for grown-ups?

Get exploring!

Rebecca turns the cogs.

Being silly with magnifying glasses. I was happy the sun wasn't shining.

Upside-down mirror.

Bethany makes a pattern.

I wonder how I can turn this into a weapon...

Jacob + water = happy (a simple scientific formula!)

Self-portrait.

Forever blowing bubbles.

It's a particle accelerator - it's true!

And here's a science experiment for you! Which of square A or B is a lighter shade?

They're exactly the same shade! Katharine and I spent a good ten minutes trying to work this one out.

Scientists together!
